WHY SPORT IS IMPoRTANT AT KNOWLESWOOD

At Knowleswood Primary, we believe that sport is an essential part of being at school as it enables pupils to not only improve their skills in a particular sport, but increases their ability to work effectively with others. We promote sport effectively through a series of after-school sports clubs. We link many of our after school sports clubs with competitions, which allows the children to become more competitive against other schools. All children that are chosen for competitions, inside or outside of school, will be given the opportunity to practice before they compete. Children are becoming more confident and competent at sport due to the competitive nature of the competitions they take part in.

PE COACHING AT KNOWLESWOOD

In 2015-2016, we introduced Mr. Rob Morrison as a sports leader. His role was to support PE sessions within school, to ensure the quality of PE delivered in school is of the highest quality. In addition to this he organised many of the sports clubs and competitions and facilitated engaging playtime and lunchtime activities for the children to get involved with on a daily basis.

Now, in 2016 - 2017, Mr. Morrison is training with us to become a teacher. Mrs Hobson now works as our sports leader at playtimes and lunchtime, continuing the good practice begun last year by Mr. Morrison. She organises a range of sporting activities for children to choose from in their free time. Mr. Wade supports Mr. Swain who is our PE leader. He organises inter-schools competitions and organises sporting activities for after school clubs and for our breakfast club.

We are pleased to announce that our PE team successfully helped us to achieve the School Games Bronze Award for 2015-2016.
