MATHS THROUGH THE CURRICULUM 2016-17

At Knowleswood Primary School we ensure that we create as many opportunities as possible for children to access maths across the curriculum. We believe that children learn most effectively through purposeful learning opportunities, where pupils can practise their skills through a wide range of practical activities. Across each year group from nursery upto year 6, staff ensure that these maths links are made not only in discreet maths lessons, but also across the 'Curriculum fit for Knowleswood.' This ensures that pupils have access the maths across the curriculum, which helps them develop their using and applying skills in a variety of different contexts.

CURRICULUM FIT FOR KNOWLESWOOD MATHS LINKS

As part of the re-development of the 'Curriculum Fit for Knowleswood' the maths leader has worked alongside each year group to develop purposeful maths links acroos the curriculum themes. As a result each year group has a series of maths links for each theme that will promote pupils ability to apply maths in different contexts and use and apply their maths understanding.

MATHS AS PART OF CONTINUOUS PROVISION

Within Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1; the school ensures that maths is accessed through continious provision within each class, as well as being taught discreetly. The continuous provision is carefully linked to the theme and provides pupils with the opportunity to apply their maths skills independently through a varietyof challenges.

In KS2, the children access maths across the curriculum with carefully devised links to science, outdoor learning and problems solving. This enables the pupils to use and apply their maths understanding in a variety of different contexts.
